Solar as Architecture
Buildings that generate their own power
TerraVolt designs building-integrated photovoltaics — solar woven directly into facades, roofing, skylights and shading — so your structure produces clean energy while looking exactly as the architect intended.
Conventional solar sits on a building. Building-integrated solar becomes the building. With BIPV, the photovoltaic layer replaces ordinary cladding, glazing or roofing — generating electricity from the very surfaces that shelter and define a structure. The panels are no longer an addition bolted to the roof; they are the roof, the wall, the canopy, working quietly as architecture and power plant at once.
This is where nature, technology and design meet most elegantly. A building clad in BIPV harvests daylight across its whole envelope, turning sun-facing surfaces into productive skin while preserving the clean lines a good architect fights for. The technology serves the design, not the other way around.
Power woven into the envelope
We work with photovoltaic glass, solar facade panels, integrated roof tiles, skylights and shading louvres — each engineered to generate while performing its original architectural job. Solar glazing admits daylight and produces power simultaneously. Facade panels insulate and shelter while feeding the building. Shading fins cut summer heat load and harvest the very sunlight they deflect. Every surface earns its place twice over.
Where BIPV transforms a building
- Curtain-wall and facade systems that generate across vertical surfaces
- Solar roof tiles and standing-seam roofing that replace conventional materials
- Photovoltaic skylights and atria that light interiors while producing power
- Shading louvres and canopies that cut heat gain and harvest energy
- Custom colours and finishes to match the architectural palette
- Seamless tie-in with battery storage and our intelligent energy systems
Intelligent generation, measurable impact
A BIPV envelope produces energy from many orientations at once, so output flows across the day rather than peaking only at noon. Our predictive software models this complex generation surface in advance — anticipating how each facade performs through the seasons — and coordinates it with on-site storage and demand. The building doesn't just generate; it understands its own production and uses it wisely, drawing on stored sunlight as conditions shift.
The ecological case is compelling and quantifiable. Because BIPV displaces conventional building materials, it offsets embodied carbon as well as operational emissions, and we model the lifetime CO₂ reduction so it can be designed in from day one — not estimated after the fact. The earlier we join your project, the more deeply power generation can be woven into the architecture. Bring TerraVolt to the table at concept stage, and we'll help you create a building that is beautiful, productive and genuinely in balance with its environment.
Frequently asked questions
Will BIPV compromise how my building looks?
Quite the opposite — BIPV is chosen precisely to preserve architectural intent. We offer custom colours, finishes and formats that read as cladding, glazing or roofing rather than panels, so generation is integrated invisibly into the design language you and your architect have established.
Is it as efficient as standard rooftop solar?
Per panel, integrated surfaces can yield slightly less than optimally tilted rooftop arrays, but BIPV generates across far more of the building envelope and through more of the day. Combined with displaced material costs and embodied-carbon savings, the whole-building case is frequently superior.
When should I involve you in my project?
As early as possible — ideally at concept or schematic design. BIPV delivers the best aesthetic, performance and cost outcomes when integrated into the architecture from the start, rather than retrofitted. We collaborate directly with your architect and engineers throughout.
