Metal Roofing

Metal roofing has quietly become the gold standard of Australian roofing — and for good reason. It is light, astonishingly durable, bushfire-resistant, and it looks sharp on everything from a coastal weekender to a national distribution centre. Ironridge are specialist metal roofers, and a beautifully laid Colorbond® roof is one of the most satisfying things we install. From the first measurement to the final flashing, metal roofing is a craft we have spent two decades perfecting.

Colorbond®, standing seam and architectural profiles

We install the full family of metal roofing systems. Traditional corrugated and trapezoidal profiles in Colorbond steel remain the workhorse of Australian homes — affordable, proven and available in a palette of colours that hold their finish for decades. For clients chasing a more refined, contemporary look, our standing-seam and concealed-fix systems deliver clean, uninterrupted lines with no exposed fasteners to age or leak.

Coastal and rural properties have particular needs, and we specify accordingly — marine-grade finishes for salt-exposed homes near the water, and high-reflectivity colours that shed summer heat and trim cooling bills. Every sheet is measured, rolled and cut to your roof, so panels run the full length of each run wherever possible, minimising joints and the leak points that come with them.

Why homeowners are switching to metal

A quality metal roof routinely lasts 40 years or more with minimal maintenance. It will not crack like a tile in a hailstorm, it does not absorb water, and its low weight reduces the load on your home’s structure — which is exactly why it is the go-to choice for re-roofing older houses and for second-storey additions.

Metal also plays beautifully with the modern home. It is the natural partner for solar panels and rainwater harvesting, it suits bushfire-prone (BAL-rated) areas, and the crisp shadow lines of a well-laid steel roof simply look fantastic. When we finish a metal re-roof, clients regularly tell us their house looks ten years younger from the kerb.

The Ironridge metal install standard

A metal roof is only as good as the hands that lay it, and this is where cheap quotes quietly cut corners. Metal expands and contracts with the heat, so fasteners, clips and flashings all have to be detailed correctly or the roof will creak, lift and eventually leak. Our roofers set out every sheet so the ribs run true, fix to manufacturer specification with the right fasteners and sealing washers, and hand-form the ridge, barge and valley flashings rather than relying on bulky off-the-shelf trims that never quite fit.

We also get the things you cannot see right — proper anti-condensation sarking and ventilation so the roof space stays dry, generous overlaps at every join, and clean penetrations around vents, flues and skylights. The result is a roof that performs exactly as it should in a forty-degree summer and a winter downpour alike, with crisp, straight shadow lines that look as sharp in ten years as the day we finished. With metal, the craftsmanship is the difference, and it is what we are known for.

Frequently asked

Is a metal roof noisy when it rains?

Not with modern insulation and sarking. A properly built metal roof is no louder inside than a tiled one — many clients find the gentle rain sound a bonus.

Can you put metal over my existing tile roof?

In many cases yes, provided the structure is sound. We assess the framing first and advise on the best approach.

How long will a Colorbond roof last?

With correct installation, 40+ years is typical, backed by manufacturer warranties of up to 30 years on the steel itself.
