The reason injections are normally required is heat. A conventional drill spins at high speed and generates friction warmth that travels to the tooth's nerve, producing the sharp sensation we anaesthetise against. How laser preparation works
The laser delivers rapid, precisely controlled energy that ablates decayed tissue layer by layer while a fine water spray keeps everything cool. Because there is no spinning bur, no frictional heat build-up and no vibration through the jaw, the nerve simply is not provoked in the way a drill provokes it — so for many cavities, no numbing is needed.
