Ventilation & Air Quality

A sealed, well-insulated building is efficient — and without ventilation, it slowly fills with the by-products of being lived in: carbon dioxide, moisture, cooking residue, volatile compounds and fine particulate. KLIMAWERK treats indoor air quality as an engineering deliverable, not an afterthought. We measure, we calculate exchange rates against occupancy, and we specify systems that keep air fresh without simply opening the building to the weather.

Mechanical heat-recovery ventilation is the centrepiece of that approach. An MVHR unit extracts stale air from kitchens and wet areas while supplying fresh air to living and sleeping spaces, passing both streams through a counter-flow heat exchanger. Up to ninety per cent of the warmth in the outgoing air is captured and transferred to the incoming air, so the building breathes continuously without surrendering the energy it has spent conditioning. In summer the process runs in reverse, tempering incoming air against the cool interior.

Filtration is specified to the environment. We fit graded filters — from coarse pollen and dust capture through to fine particulate classes for homes near traffic, bushfire-prone regions or industrial corridors. Filter housings are positioned for tool-free access so maintenance is a two-minute task rather than a service call, and we document the filter class and replacement interval for every unit we commission.

Ductwork is designed, not improvised. Runs are sized for low velocity to keep the system silent, sealed to limit leakage, and balanced at the registers so every room receives its designed flow rate. We commission with an anemometer and record the measured figures, because a ventilation system that has never been balanced is a ventilation system nobody can trust.

For commercial and high-occupancy spaces we add demand-controlled ventilation, where CO₂ and humidity sensors modulate fan speed to actual need — ventilating fully when a room is busy and easing back when it empties, saving energy without ever letting air quality slip. The result across every project is the same: air that is fresh, filtered and quiet, delivered by a system whose performance we can show you in numbers rather than ask you to take on faith.
