A restomod keeps everything you love about a classic — the lines, the presence, the romance — and quietly cures everything you do not: the wandering steering, the fade-prone drums, the cranky carburettor on a hot day. It is the best of both eras in one machine.
Detroit Iron has built restomods around crate LS and Coyote engines, modern five- and six-speed gearboxes, coilover suspension and full air conditioning, all while keeping the car looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Sleeper or statement, the choice is yours.
Power and drivability, done properly
Dropping a modern engine into a classic is the easy part. Making it cool, charge, stop, steer and idle like a factory car is where experience matters. We integrate engine management, wiring, fuelling and cooling as a complete system, not a collection of parts bolted together.
The result is a car that fires instantly on a cold morning, cruises a freeway in air-conditioned comfort, and still lights up the rear tyres when you ask it to.
- Crate V8 and modern EFI engine swaps
- Five/six-speed manual and modern automatic conversions
- Coilover and IFS suspension upgrades
- Big-brake disc conversions and modern steering
- Custom wiring, cooling and air conditioning integration
Subtle or savage — your call
Some clients want a period-perfect exterior hiding 500 horsepower. Others want flared arches, a lowered stance and a full custom interior. We scope the build around how you actually intend to use the car — weekend cruiser, track day weapon, or coast-to-coast tourer — and engineer it to suit.
How We Work

Build & integrate
Driveline, suspension and electronics installed and tuned to work together.
Dial-in
Dyno tuning, alignment and real-world shakedown until it drives flawlessly.
Common Questions
Is a restomod still a "real" classic?
It depends on your goals. A restomod prioritises usability and performance over originality. For owners who want to drive, not just show, it is often the most rewarding path.
Can you keep it looking stock?
Absolutely — the "sleeper" build is one of our favourites. Factory paint and trim outside, modern muscle underneath.
Will it need engineering certification?
Significant driveline and suspension changes may require compliance certification depending on your region. We build to standard and guide you through it.
