Energy & Commercial

Comfort, correctly powered

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems are only as reliable as the electrical infrastructure behind them. Aura Illumination provides dedicated HVAC electrical services that ensure your climate systems run efficiently, safely and without interruption.

A commercial or industrial HVAC system is a significant investment, and its electrical connection is the critical link between that investment and the comfort it delivers. Poor wiring, undersized circuit protection, incorrect phase balancing or inadequate earthing can all cause nuisance tripping, equipment damage and premature compressor failure. At Aura Illumination, we specialise in the electrical side of HVAC — working alongside mechanical contractors and building services engineers to deliver installations that are correct from the first day of operation.

HVAC electrical connections and commissioning

Large rooftop units, split system arrays, commercial chillers, cooling towers and ventilation plant all carry specific electrical requirements. We size circuit protection, cable runs and isolators to manufacturer specifications and Australian standards, then commission each connection systematically to confirm correct phase rotation, voltage balance and earth continuity before any system is handed over to the mechanical team for refrigerant commissioning.

Getting the commissioning sequence right matters. Incorrect phase rotation at start-up can destroy a compressor in seconds. Inadequate cable sizing leads to nuisance tripping under load on the hottest days of summer — exactly when your system needs to perform. We treat HVAC electrical commissioning as a precise technical process, not a final checkbox.

Three-phase supply and load balancing

Large HVAC plant typically runs on three-phase supply. Distributing load evenly across phases reduces transformer stress, improves power factor and lowers energy consumption. We assess existing phase loading across your facility before adding new HVAC circuits, and balance new connections to avoid over-loading individual phases. Where demand charges are a concern, we consider equipment staging and starting sequences as part of the electrical design.

HVAC electrical services we provide

  • New HVAC electrical connections for rooftop, split and chilled-water systems
  • Sub-board and circuit protection upgrades for increased HVAC load
  • Phase rotation testing and commissioning sign-off
  • Isolator and disconnect switch installation to AS/NZS 3000
  • Preventative maintenance and thermal scanning of HVAC electrical components

Preventative maintenance of HVAC electrical infrastructure is often overlooked until a fault occurs. Loose terminal connections, deteriorating contactors and failing capacitors in condensing units are common fault modes that cause reactive call-outs at the worst possible time. Our scheduled maintenance program covers all electrical components within the HVAC system, ensuring minor issues are caught and corrected before they result in equipment failure or tenant discomfort.

Working with your HVAC and building services team

We understand that HVAC projects involve multiple trades and tight commissioning schedules. Our team is accustomed to coordinating with mechanical engineers, BMS contractors and facility managers to keep the electrical scope on programme. We attend site meetings, provide timely documentation and communicate progress clearly so there are no delays on our account. Where building management system integration is required, we liaise directly with the BMS contractor to ensure correct wiring of control interfaces and interlocks.

Compliance and safety documentation

All HVAC electrical work we complete is certified to AS/NZS 3000 and documented with certificates of electrical safety. We retain full records of cable schedules, circuit protection specifications and commissioning test results, which are available to building owners, facilities managers and service contractors for the life of the equipment.

Good to know

We are installing a new rooftop unit — can you handle the electrical connection? +

Yes. We routinely connect rooftop packaged units, split system arrays and commercial chillers. We coordinate directly with your mechanical contractor on timing so the electrical connection is ready for refrigerant commissioning without delay.

Our HVAC keeps tripping the circuit breaker under load — can you diagnose this? +

Nuisance tripping under load is usually caused by undersized overcurrent protection, undersized cable, loose connections or a failing compressor drawing excessive current. We carry out a site inspection, measure actual operating currents and identify the root cause rather than simply resetting the breaker.

Do you work on both single-phase and three-phase HVAC systems? +

Yes. We service the electrical side of all commercial HVAC configurations, from single-phase split systems in small offices to large three-phase chilled-water plant in commercial buildings. Phase balancing and correct protection sizing are standard parts of our process for three-phase installations.
