Restoring strength to the jaw
Whether following trauma, tumour removal or a congenital difference, jaw reconstruction rebuilds both form and function — restoring your ability to eat, speak and smile with confidence.
3D-Guided Surgical Planning Jaw reconstruction encompasses a range of specialised surgical techniques used to rebuild the upper or lower jaw when bone has been lost or damaged. Causes include facial trauma, the removal of cysts or tumours, advanced infection, or congenital and developmental differences in jaw structure.
The goal of reconstruction is twofold — to restore the underlying skeletal framework of the face, and to re-establish the everyday functions that depend on it, including chewing, swallowing, speech and facial balance. Each plan is highly individual.
A carefully planned approach
Modern reconstruction relies on detailed 3D cone-beam imaging and virtual surgical planning. This allows our surgeons to model the reconstruction in advance, design precise bone contours and, where appropriate, prepare patient-specific plates or grafts before entering theatre.
Depending on the extent of bone loss, reconstruction may use bone grafts taken from another site, or advanced microvascular techniques that transfer living bone with its own blood supply. Your surgeon will explain which approach suits your anatomy and why.
- Treatment of trauma, tumour and congenital cases
- Virtual 3D planning for predictable results
- Bone grafting and microvascular reconstruction options
- Close coordination with restorative and oncology teams
- A foundation for future dental implants where needed
Supportive, coordinated care
Reconstructive surgery of the jaw is a significant undertaking, and you will never face it alone. We work within a multidisciplinary framework, coordinating with anaesthetists, restorative dentists and, where relevant, oncology and speech specialists to support your complete recovery.
Procedures are performed under careful anaesthesia with comprehensive monitoring, and your recovery is guided by a clear, staged plan. We take the time to explain each phase so you understand what to expect. Please arrange a consultation so we can review your imaging together and outline a pathway tailored to you.
Jaw Reconstruction — your questions
Reconstruction may be needed after facial fractures, the removal of cysts or tumours, severe infection, or to address congenital and developmental differences. We assess each case individually using detailed imaging before recommending a plan.
Restoring function is a central aim of reconstruction. While recovery takes time and varies between patients, our planning is focused on rebuilding the structures needed for comfortable chewing, swallowing and clear speech.
In many cases reconstruction creates a stable foundation that can later support dental implants. We plan with this future possibility in mind, coordinating closely with your restorative dentist throughout your care.
