Home Wallbox & Residential EV Charging

A quality home wallbox transforms overnight charging from a slow trickle on a 10A GPO into a genuine replenishment session that has your vehicle road-ready by morning. We install AC wallboxes from 7.2kW single-phase up to 22kW three-phase, sourced from manufacturers whose products meet IEC 61851 and carry the required SAA certification for the Australian market. Switchboard work — including a dedicated circuit, RCD protection to AS/NZS 3000 Clause 2.6, and a metering sub-circuit if your energy retailer offers EV-specific tariffs — is completed by our licensed electricians. Every residential EV charger installation concludes with a Certificate of Electrical Compliance issued to the home owner.

Commercial, Fleet & Destination Charging Infrastructure

Commercial EV charging demands a fundamentally different approach to design. Car parks, fleet depots, hospitality venues, and retail centres each impose unique constraints on available kVA, load diversity, and future charger rollout staging. We deliver Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6 and 2.0 compliant network infrastructure, enabling remote management, energy reporting, and billing integration regardless of charger manufacturer. Dynamic load management systems are sized and programmed to cap total EV demand at a contractually compliant level, protecting your site from maximum demand penalties and supply authority capacity charges.

The switchboard is the critical constraint in most EV charging projects, and it is where inexperienced contractors cut corners. Apex Current Solutions sizes switchboards and main cables to accommodate not just your current charger count but a credible ten-year fleet expansion. Where existing supply authority infrastructure cannot support your EV load without significant network augmentation, we manage the distributor application process on your behalf, co-ordinate metering changes, and sequence works so your existing operations are uninterrupted. Every switchboard we touch is brought into compliance with the current edition of AS/NZS 3000, and all protective devices are labelled, scheduled, and documented in the handover package.

Under Australian law, all EV charger installations — including the dedicated circuit, switchboard work, and charger connection — must be performed by a licensed electrical contractor. DIY electrical work is illegal, voids equipment warranties, and will invalidate your home and contents insurance. Apex Current Solutions provides full installation, testing, and a Certificate of Electrical Compliance with every job.

AC wallboxes convert grid power inside the vehicle using its onboard charger, typically delivering 7 to 22kW. DC fast chargers convert AC to DC externally and supply direct current to the battery, bypassing the onboard charger for rates of 25kW to 150kW-plus. For home and overnight commercial use, an AC wallbox is cost-effective and sufficient. Fleet depots and high-throughput destination sites generally benefit from DC fast charging. We will recommend the right solution after reviewing your dwell times, fleet mix, and available supply capacity.

It depends on your current switchboard rating, existing load, and the charger output you want to install. A 7.2kW single-phase wallbox may suit a standard residential board with a spare circuit, while a 22kW three-phase charger may require a board upgrade or a supply augmentation application to your local distributor.
