VSDs generate high-frequency voltage switching on their output cables, which can cause motor insulation breakdown, bearing currents, and electromagnetic interference if the cable selection, grounding, and filtering are not correctly engineered. Correct installation requires specific cable types, dV/dt or sine-wave filters in some applications, and earthing arrangements that differ significantly from standard motor wiring.
BMS integration requires both hardwired connections, including digital and analogue inputs and outputs to sensors, actuators, and equipment status contacts, and increasingly, communications cabling for protocols such as BACnet or Modbus. Each point must be verified against the BMS point schedule and tested for correct signal range and polarity before the system can be commissioned.
