Put the power where the grip is
Diff lockers send drive to both wheels on an axle so you keep climbing when one wheel lifts. We fit and tune lockers, gears and driveline parts for serious capability.

An open differential sends power to the wheel with the least grip, which is exactly the wrong wheel when one tyre lifts off the ground on a steep, rutted climb. A diff locker forces both wheels on an axle to turn together, so the wheel still in contact keeps driving and you keep moving. Adding a locker is one of the single biggest improvements you can make to a vehicle's off-road capability, often the difference between cresting an obstacle and sliding back down it.
We fit ARB Air Lockers, which are selectable, so the diff behaves normally on the road and locks fully only when you flick the switch. They run off an onboard air compressor that can also air up your tyres after a track. Where a simpler, set-and-forget option suits, we fit Lokka automatic lockers that engage under load without any switches or air lines. We help you choose between selectable control and automatic simplicity based on how you drive. A selectable locker gives you the best of both worlds, full traction off-road and normal, predictable handling on the highway, which is why the ARB Air Locker remains the benchmark for serious touring builds.
Gearing for bigger tyres
Fitting larger tyres improves clearance and flotation but effectively raises your gearing, which dulls acceleration, lugs the engine and hurts towing and economy. Re-gearing the differentials with lower ratios restores the performance you had before, bringing the engine back into its sweet spot and taking strain off the driveline. We calculate the right ratio for your tyre size and use, then fit quality crown wheel and pinion sets to bring the rig back to life. It is especially worthwhile on a heavily loaded tourer that tows, where the wrong gearing has the engine working hard and running hot on every hill, and the right gearing transforms how the vehicle pulls.
- ARB Air Lockers for selectable, switchable diff locking
- Lokka automatic lockers for set-and-forget engagement
- Onboard air compressors for lockers and tyre inflation
- Lower diff ratios to suit larger tyre fitments
- Heavy duty CV joints, axles and driveline components
- Full diff rebuilds, bearings and setup to spec
Built to handle the strain
More traction and bigger tyres put more load through your driveline, so the supporting parts have to keep up. We fit heavy duty CV joints and axles where the standard units are a known weak point, set up your differentials with correct backlash and pinion preload, and rebuild tired diffs with quality bearings. Doing the locker, the gearing and the supporting components together gives you a driveline that is genuinely up to the punishment of serious off-road work rather than a strong diff feeding a weak axle that snaps at the worst moment.
Setup is everything
A differential is a precision assembly, and the difference between a quiet, long-lived diff and a whining, short-lived one is the quality of the setup. We measure and adjust pinion depth, backlash and bearing preload to specification, check your tooth contact pattern, and run the diff in properly before it sees a hard track. Rushed or sloppy setup is the most common cause of premature diff failure, and it is exactly where our experience pays off. Whether we are installing a locker, swapping ratios or rebuilding a tired axle, we treat the setup as the job that matters most.
A locker also makes hard sections safer, because keeping both wheels driving means less wheel spin, less momentum needed and more control over where the vehicle goes. If your rig stops where the grip runs out, a locker will change that. Tell us your tyre size and terrain and we will spec a driveline that drives through almost anything you point it at.
Lockers, Diffs & Driveline questions
A rear locker gives the biggest gain for most touring and is the usual first step. Adding a front locker as well makes the vehicle near unstoppable on technical climbs but is best reserved for serious off-road use. We advise based on your terrain.
Often yes, especially with a big jump in tyre size. Larger tyres effectively raise your gearing and sap performance and economy. Lower diff ratios bring the engine back into its ideal range, which is well worth it on a heavy tourer.
An ARB Air Locker is selectable, so the diff stays open on the road and locks only when you switch it on, giving the best road manners. A Lokka automatic locker needs no switches or air and engages under load, which suits a simpler build.
