Carry your build legally, with payload to spare
A GVM upgrade lifts your legal carrying capacity so your loaded touring rig stays compliant, insured and safe. We handle the engineering and the plate.

It is easier than most people think to run a touring vehicle over its legal weight. By the time you add a bar, winch, drawers, a second battery, a long-range tank, water, recovery gear, a roof rack and passengers, a factory HiLux or Ranger can be well over its Gross Vehicle Mass before you have even packed the fridge. Being overweight is illegal, voids insurance in an accident and overloads your brakes, chassis and tyres. A GVM upgrade fixes that by lawfully raising your rated capacity.
We supply and fit certified GVM upgrade packages from Old Man Emu, Lovells and similar approved suppliers. These are not just heavier springs. A compliant upgrade is an engineered kit of springs, shocks and sometimes brake and chassis components that has been tested and approved to a higher mass, then certified with a new compliance plate so your registration paperwork reflects the legal rating. Without that certification, simply fitting heavier springs does nothing for your legal capacity, and you would still be over weight in the eyes of the law and your insurer no matter how the vehicle looks or sits.
Pre-rego versus post-rego upgrades
A pre-registration, or second stage of manufacture, upgrade is fitted before the vehicle is first registered and is recognised nationally under a federal approval. A post-registration upgrade is fitted to a vehicle already on the road and certified by a state engineer. Both are legitimate, but the rules, paperwork and maximum ratings differ between states. We explain which path suits your vehicle and your state, and manage the certification so you drive away with valid plates.

Do not forget your GCM
Gross Combined Mass is the total your vehicle plus trailer can legally weigh together. Many tourers upgrade GVM but forget that towing a heavy van can still push them over GCM, even when the car alone is legal. We can advise on GCM upgrades where available so your fully loaded rig and van combination stays within the law. Getting both numbers right protects your licence, your insurance and your family on every trip away, because an overloaded combination has longer stopping distances and far less stability in an emergency swerve.
More than just springs
A genuine GVM upgrade is an engineered system, not a marketing sticker. Depending on the vehicle and the rating you need, an approved kit can include heavier rated springs and shocks, upgraded bump stops, and in some cases brake and chassis components rated for the higher mass. We fit only kits that carry a proper approval and the documentation to match, then we tune the new suspension so the vehicle still rides well and sits level loaded. The payload headroom you gain is real, legal and backed by paperwork your insurer will accept.
We also help you load smart once the upgrade is done, keeping heavy items low and forward of the rear axle so your weight distribution stays safe and your towing remains stable. It is worth remembering that a GVM upgrade raises your total mass limit but not always your axle limits, so we check front and rear axle ratings as well to make sure your build is legal at every measuring point, not just on the overall number. Book a payload check and we will get an honest read on your weights, then map out whether an upgrade is worthwhile and which option keeps you legal for the long haul.
GVM & GCM Upgrades questions
The only reliable way is a weighbridge with the vehicle loaded as you travel. We can help interpret the numbers and compare them against the GVM on your compliance plate. Most fully built tourers are closer to the limit than their owners expect.
GVM is the most your vehicle alone can legally weigh. GCM is the most your vehicle and trailer can weigh combined. You can be under GVM but still over GCM when towing a heavy van, which is why we look at both.
Yes, when fitted as a certified kit and signed off by an approved engineer. Rules and maximum ratings vary by state, so we confirm the right option for where your vehicle is registered before any work starts.
