EV Charging Infrastructure

Solar-backed charging for homes, depots and forecourts.

  • 7kW — home AC charger
  • 15 min — DC depot top-up
  • 24/7 — OCPP monitored
  • End-to-end delivery: design, finance, build and operate.
Discuss this service

Electric vehicle charging is rarely about a single charger. It is about how power moves across your property, how vehicles dwell, and how a connection fits inside the capacity your site already holds. Meridian designs charging infrastructure as part of the wider electrical fabric of a building or yard, not as a bolt-on appliance.

We work from the supply backwards. Whether you have a single-phase home, a three-phase commercial board or a depot fed by a dedicated distribution transformer, the connection determines what is possible without an expensive upgrade through your local DNSP. Getting that assessment right protects both your budget and your land use.

AC versus DC charging

AC charging is the workhorse for homes, workplaces and overnight fleet parking. A typical home unit delivers 7kW on single phase or up to 22kW on three phase, replenishing a vehicle comfortably across a parking dwell. It is low cost, durable and ideal where cars sit for hours.

DC fast charging converts power on site to deliver 50kW to 350kW directly to the battery, taking a vehicle from low to high state of charge in 15 to 40 minutes. DC suits depots with tight turnaround, public sites and any location where dwell time is short and throughput matters. The trade-off is a larger grid connection, switchgear footprint and civil works, all of which we plan against your available land.

Load management and OCPP

Most sites cannot run every charger at full power at once, and they should not have to. Dynamic load management measures the real-time draw of the whole site and shares available capacity across active chargers, so you avoid breaching your supply limit or paying for a connection upgrade you do not need.

We build on the open OCPP standard so your chargers are not locked to one vendor's cloud. That means open back-end choice, roaming where relevant, and clean integration with billing, access control and energy management.

  • Dynamic load balancing across the whole site, not per-charger guesswork
  • OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 back-end interoperability
  • Solar-aware charging that prioritises self-generated power
  • Driver authentication, tariff control and usage reporting

Depots, fleets and property value

For fleet operators, charging is an operational asset. We model duty cycles, vehicle return patterns and depot dwell to size the right mix of AC overnight bays and DC top-up points, then stage the build so capacity grows with your fleet rather than stranding capital up front.

Well-planned charging also lifts the value of the underlying property. Future-proofed conduit, spare board capacity and a clean connection make a site materially more attractive to EV-driving tenants and buyers. We design the electrical backbone so charging can scale without tearing up the car park twice.

Operate and support

Hardware is only useful when it works. We monitor every connected charger around the clock, push firmware remotely, and resolve faults before drivers notice them. Maintenance, billing reconciliation and uptime reporting are handled under a single agreement, so charging stays available and accountable.

Frequently asked

Often no. With dynamic load management we can frequently run chargers inside your existing supply. We confirm this with a site assessment and, where an upgrade is genuinely needed, manage the DNSP application for you.

Yes. Solar-aware charging prioritises self-generated power and can throttle to soak up excess generation, reducing grid imports and improving your return on a rooftop system.

OCPP is an open communication standard between chargers and management software. Using it means you are not locked to one vendor and can change back-end providers without replacing hardware.
