Diagnostics & Electrical

Find the fault, fix it once

Modern performance cars leave a data trail before they fail. We read it with proper tools, isolate the real cause and fix it once — no guesswork, no parts cannon.

Diagnostics & Electrical

A misfire under boost, an intermittent limp mode, a dash lit up like a start-light gantry — every fault tells a story in the data before it leaves you stranded at the side of the circuit. The trick is reading that telemetry properly rather than reacting to the warning light alone. We treat diagnostics the way a pit wall treats a sensor trace: as evidence to be interpreted, not a symptom to be silenced.

Too many workshops swing the parts cannon — replace the coils, then the plugs, then the sensor, then shrug. That approach burns your money and rarely fixes the root cause. We take a different line. We pull live and logged data, cross-check it against known-good values, and isolate the actual failure before a single component comes off the car.

We read the data, not the dashboard

Every fault investigation starts at the OBD port and the ECU. We log live parameters under load — fuel trims, knock counts, sensor voltages, rail pressure, lambda — and capture freeze-frame data from the moment the fault triggered. That snapshot is often the single most useful piece of evidence we have.

From there we compare the trace against the manufacturer's expected ranges and our own reference logs for that platform. When a reading drifts outside tolerance, we know where to look. The data narrows a vague complaint down to a specific circuit, sensor or mechanical cause.

Electrical and wiring gremlins

Intermittent electrical faults are the hardest to chase and the most satisfying to kill. Corroded grounds, chafed looms, dry solder joints and water ingress all produce symptoms that come and go with temperature, vibration and load. We trace circuits with a multimeter and oscilloscope, test voltage drop under real conditions, and find the break instead of guessing at it.

Aftermarket installs are a common culprit — a poorly tapped switched-live, an earth run to painted metal, a daisy-chained accessory pulling a sensor reference voltage down. We untangle the wiring, correct it to a proper standard and document what we changed.

What a diagnostic session covers

  • Full fault-code scan across every module, with freeze-frame capture
  • Live data logging under load to reproduce intermittent faults
  • Oscilloscope and multimeter testing of sensors, actuators and circuits
  • Voltage-drop and ground-integrity checks on suspect wiring
  • Compression and leak-down testing where a mechanical cause is suspected
  • A written summary of the root cause and the recommended fix

We don't clear the codes and send you on your way. You leave with a clear picture of what failed and why, so the same fault doesn't reappear three laps into your next session.

Built for performance platforms

Turbocharged, supercharged and high-compression engines fail in their own ways — knock, fuelling shortfalls, boost-control faults and heat-soaked sensors that read fine cold and lie when hot. We diagnose with those failure modes in mind, and we test under the load that actually triggers them rather than at idle in the workshop.

If your car is running a standalone or piggyback ECU, we read it on its own terms. We work with the calibration, not against it, so a diagnostic visit never compromises a tune you've already paid for.

Chasing a fault that won't show itself? Book a diagnostic slot and we'll read the data, isolate the real cause and fix it once. Call us or book online to get your car on the bench.

// FAQ

Diagnostics & Electrical questions

Often yes. We log live data and capture freeze-frame snapshots so that even a fault that comes and goes leaves a trace we can read. If it's load- or heat-dependent, we recreate those conditions to force the fault to appear.

No. We read standalone and piggyback ECUs on their own terms and never overwrite or reset your calibration during diagnosis. Anything we change is documented and agreed with you first.

A written summary of the root cause and the recommended fix, not just a cleared code. You'll understand what failed and why, so the problem doesn't return at your next track day.
