Differential & LSD Setup

Drive off every corner

Open diffs waste power on corner exit. We fit and set up limited-slip diffs and final drives so both wheels work and you fire off the apex.

Differential & LSD Setup

Watch the data from a car with an open diff on corner exit and you'll see the story — one driven wheel lights up, traction control cuts in, and the lap time bleeds away while the engine revs go nowhere useful. An open diff sends torque to the wheel with the least grip, which is exactly the wrong wheel when you're loading up the outside tyre off an apex.

A limited-slip differential fixes that. By controlling how much speed difference is allowed between the two driven wheels, an LSD keeps both wheels working and puts your power down where it earns lap time. Fitted and set up properly, it transforms how the car behaves under power.

The right LSD for your car and circuit

There's no single best diff — there's the right one for your platform, power and the tracks you run. Plate-style clutch LSDs give strong, tunable lock and suit power-down and rotation on circuit. Helical and torque-biasing units are smoother and quieter, ideal for fast road and lighter track use. We spec the type to your goals, not to whatever's on the shelf.

On a clutch-type unit we set the ramp angles and preload to balance entry stability against corner-exit drive. Too much lock and the car pushes wide on turn-in; too little and you're back to spinning an inside wheel. Getting that balance right is where setup experience earns its keep.

Final drive — gear the car to the track

The final drive ratio decides how your gearing maps onto a circuit. A shorter final drive sharpens acceleration and keeps the engine in its powerband out of slow corners; a taller ratio chases top speed on long straights. We match the ratio to where you run so you're not bouncing off the limiter mid-straight or labouring out of a hairpin.

We'll talk through the trade-offs for your usual circuits and your engine's power curve before recommending a change, so the gearing serves the lap rather than a spec-sheet number.

What a diff setup covers

  • LSD type recommendation matched to your car, power and circuits
  • Plate-LSD ramp-angle and preload setup for your driving balance
  • Final drive ratio selection to suit your usual tracks
  • Full rebuild with new bearings, seals and crush sleeve as needed
  • Correct diff oil and friction modifier for the unit fitted
  • Backlash and pinion-depth setup to factory specification

A diff is only as good as its installation. Pinion depth and backlash set wrong will whine, wear and eventually fail, so we set every install to spec and run it in properly.

Built to take repeated load

Track use punishes a diff — repeated hard corner exits, heat and shock loading all take their toll. We build with quality bearings and the correct lubricant for sustained temperature, and we set preload with track duty in mind so the unit holds its setup session after session rather than fading as the clutches wear.

If your existing diff is noisy, worn or simply not suited to how you drive, we'll assess it honestly and tell you whether a rebuild, a re-shim or a full LSD upgrade is the right call.

// FAQ

Differential & LSD Setup questions

If you're losing drive off corners, lighting up one wheel or fighting traction control on exit, an open diff is usually the culprit and an LSD will help. We'll assess your current diff and driving before recommending a fit or a setup change rather than upselling either.

A clutch-type plate LSD gives strong, tunable lock that suits hard circuit use and rotation, while a helical torque-biasing unit is smoother and quieter for fast road and lighter track work. We spec the type to your car and how you drive it.

A shorter final drive raises cruising RPM and can use a little more fuel, while a taller one does the opposite. We balance the ratio against your real-world use so the gearing helps on track without making the car unpleasant on the road.
