A home theatre is the one room where electrical craft becomes something you can actually hear. We get called in constantly to 'fix the sound' on systems where the equipment is excellent and the install let it down. Here's where fidelity is really won and lost.
Dirty power makes dirty sound
Sensitive AV gear hates sharing a circuit with motors, dimmers and fridges. Every time the compressor kicks in, it dumps electrical noise onto the line — and you hear it as hum, hiss or buzz through the speakers. A dedicated, clean circuit for the AV rack, properly earthed, removes a whole category of problems before you've touched a setting.
Cabling: the part nobody sees and everyone hears
- Speaker cable sized for the run length, terminated properly, not nicked or stretched.
- HDMI runs over the right cable — or fibre HDMI for long runs that copper can't manage.
- Signal cables routed away from mains cable to avoid induced hum.
- Everything concealed in-wall and in-ceiling, with conduit for future upgrades.
Concealed cabling isn't just about looks — a tangle of cables draped behind the screen is a tangle of antennas picking up interference. Clean, separated, properly-routed cable is quieter cable, and quieter cable is the foundation of a black, silent background that lets detail come through.
The room is an instrument
Speaker placement, seating position and a few basic acoustic treatments matter as much as the speakers themselves. We plan the layout around the room's dimensions and where you'll actually sit, so the surround field wraps correctly and the bass doesn't boom in one seat and vanish in the next.
Calibration is where it comes alive
Once it's wired and placed, calibration ties it together — levels matched across every channel, distances set, room correction dialled in. This is the step most DIY setups skip, and it's the one that turns 'loud' into 'immersive'. A calibrated system at moderate volume beats an uncalibrated one at full noise, every time.
One remote to rule it
Finally, we integrate control so one button dims the lights, drops the screen, fires up the projector and selects the source. No juggling four remotes, no teaching the family a sequence. The fidelity obsession runs all the way through — because a cinema you can't be bothered to switch on is a cinema you never use.
Buy the gear you love. Just don't hand it to a rushed install. Wired clean, powered clean and calibrated properly, even modest equipment can sound extraordinary — and great equipment can finally do what you paid for.
