A KNX installation uses twisted-pair bus cable run to every device, with programming handled through ETS software. C-Bus, developed by Clipsal, remains the dominant protocol on Australian new-build and renovation projects. Both systems offer deep integration with HVAC, motorised blinds, security, and energy monitoring. We carry certifications in both and will specify the correct protocol based on your building topology, future expansion requirements, and long-term support considerations. On larger sites we often combine the two via gateways, connecting a C-Bus lighting backbone to a KNX backbone controlling blinds and HVAC.

Structured Cabling Beneath Every Smart System
A smart home is only as reliable as the infrastructure underneath it. Before any controller goes online, Ironclad pulls Cat6A data cable to every switch position, installs correctly rated conduit where cables pass through fire-rated walls, and terminates all home automation wiring at a purpose-built comms cabinet. We separate extra-low-voltage bus wiring from 230 V mains circuits in accordance with AS/NZS 3000 clearance requirements. Conduit fill is calculated, not guessed. Every cable is labelled with a unique identifier that maps back to a printed as-built drawing handed to the homeowner at practical completion.
Commissioning, Testing, and Handover
Programming a KNX or C-Bus system is a precise discipline. Group addresses, scene memory, and time-scheduling logic must be tested under load, not just in simulation. Ironclad completes a structured commissioning process that includes dimmer load testing, fault-state verification, and a full factory-reset recovery test so you know the system can be restored if needed. We document every group address and scene in a client handover pack and walk you through control via keypad, touchscreen, and app. We also offer annual recommissioning visits to update firmware, add devices, and verify that the system has not drifted from its original settings.
