An electrical emergency is any situation where continued operation of the electrical installation poses a risk to life, property, or critical business continuity. That definition is deliberately broad — it covers the obvious scenarios like sparking switchboards, burning insulation odours, and flooded meter boxes, but it also encompasses subtler emergencies: a medical practice that loses power to refrigerated vaccines, a restaurant that loses power to its cool rooms mid-service, or a warehouse whose emergency lighting has failed during a night shift. What Constitutes an Electrical Emergency

The most common emergency calls we attend involve main switchboard faults, RCD or circuit breaker failures that leave entire areas without power, visible arcing or scorching at outlets or distribution boards, and the unmistakable smell of overheated insulation — which is always a fire precursor until proven otherwise. Storm damage to service mains, water ingress into meter enclosures, and vehicle-impact damage to underground conduit are also frequent emergency scenarios in commercial and industrial settings. In every case, the correct first step is to identify whether the supply can be safely isolated before our crew arrives, and our dispatch staff will walk you through that process on the phone so you are not left waiting in an unsafe environment.

Once on site, our electrician follows a structured fault-isolation protocol: verify supply voltage at the point of attachment, inspect the main switchboard for evidence of overcurrent events or thermal damage, test RCDs and MCBs for correct operation, and use thermal imaging where a switchboard fault is suspected but not yet visible. Safety Isolation and Hazard Management

Any situation that poses an immediate risk to safety or causes a complete loss of power to occupied premises qualifies. This includes visible arcing, burning smells, a switchboard that is hot to touch, flooding near electrical equipment, or a total loss of power that cannot be resolved by resetting breakers. Will I receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety for emergency work?

Yes, always. Every electrical repair we carry out — including emergency work performed at 3 am — is completed under a Certificate of Electrical Safety issued in accordance with state electrical safety legislation. We email your copy on job completion and retain records for the legally required period.

Can you restore power the same night, or will I need a follow-up visit?

In the majority of emergency call-outs, our electricians carry sufficient materials to complete a permanent repair on the first visit. Where a fault requires specialist parts or a planned works approval — for example, a failed underground cable — we will restore safe partial power where possible and schedule the permanent repair at priority. We will never leave your premises in an unsafe condition.

Do your emergency electricians carry thermal imaging cameras?

Yes. All of our emergency vans are equipped with a thermal imaging camera. Thermal imaging is particularly valuable when a switchboard fault is suspected but not yet visible — elevated temperatures in busbars, connections, or breaker bodies often reveal the fault source before any physical evidence is present, allowing a faster and more targeted repair.
